I think one reason why people saying men don’t have ideals to work towards pisses me off so much because I saw firsthand that wasn’t true with my friend.
He was so tall that it was just kind of awkward (at 13 he was 6’5”), super skinny, had awful acne, and had a huge nose. Guys left him alone, but girls were mean to him. Absolutely awful. My friend had been home schooled before this so this was all new to him. He never cried or anything or talked about it, but he’d try to joke about his flaws in such a self-depreciating way that you knew what these girls were saying to him was starting to get him down.
And the thing about it was that he was such a great guy. He was the only guy I actually trusted and I hated that the fact he was so funny and nice and would do anything he could for you was ignored because he wasn’t conventionally attractive.
He did grow into his body. Got into hockey, acne went away, and his tallness wasn’t so awkward anymore. The bullying stopped and girls started to want to go out with him.
Girls have no ideals set for guys. Yeah, only guys do this to women. Completely.
